Grade 7 Comprehensive Workbooks

The NumberSense Grade 7 Comprehensive Workbooks provide an all-inclusive mathematics programme that addresses all of the Grade 7 mathematics curriculum learning outcomes in a single set of workbooks.

With the Original NumberSense Workbooks for Grade 7, Number, Operations and Relationships and Pattern were presented in an integrated manner over three workbooks while Space and Shape (Geometry), Measurement and Data Handling were covered in a separate workbook – the Companion Workbook – which also included work on integers and exponents. These learning areas are now included in the Comprehensive Workbooks.

In developing the Grade 7 Comprehensive Workbooks, the original Grade 7 workbooks have been completely restructured to support a smoother transition between Grade 6 and Grade 8. While the NumberSense philosophy and approach remains unchanged, the content is now arranged by chapters. Each chapter also has definitions, detailed explanations, worked examples, and exercises in much the same way that a high school textbook may have.

Despite the rearrangement of content, the Grade 7 Comprehensive Workbooks are still presented as workbooks, and the entire curriculum for Grade 7 is covered over four workbooks, Workbooks 25 to 28.
It is expected that teachers and learners will work though the workbooks in sequence starting from the beginning of Workbook 25 and ending at the end of Workbook 28.

Specific features of the Grade 7 Workbooks include:

• Chapters that begin with a chapter heading followed by section headings etc.
• Definitions and detailed explanations.
• Clearly demarcated exercises.
• The retention of investigations that are a hallmark of the NumberSenseTM Mathematics Programme.
• The strengthening of the content for each of the learning areas.
• A more natural alignment of the workbooks with the school terms (one workbook per term):
  • Grade 7: Workbooks 25, 26, 27 and 28
