The NumberSense App is proving its value in the closed school context!
Since writing about our special offer on the NumberSense App, more than 2000 new children and an increasing number of schools are now using the NumberSense App very successfully as part of their learning at home strategy to cope with the closure of schools.
One mother writes: “My grade 1 daughter loves the NumberSense App. She used to hate mathematics, but completes 6 pages in no time and has completed 12 pages in the last 2 days. We have to tear her away from the tablet. She is so excited for mathematics and her 4 year-old brother is doing it with her.”
A teacher from a school with more than 200 children using the NumberSense App wrote: “The NumberSense App is working and I don’t know who is more excited, me or the children. It is proving a very real solution to providing learning opportunities for the children at this time.”
Students get instant feedback on their work when doing the NumberSense activities on the App (see image above).
Teachers (and parents in the case of parents who buy the NumberSense App directly) have access to rich data about the student’s performance.
Teachers can see at a glance:
- On which page each child is working;
- Which children are doing well (green); only coping (orange); and, struggling (red); and
- The pace (pages per week) at which each child is progressing.
Teachers can drill down and determine which activities on each page are causing their students difficulties.
In addition to the consoles that the teacher (and parent) has at their disposal to monitor each student’s progress. The teachers (and parents) can set individualised, quality gates for each student in their class. In particular, they can determine:
- The proportion of responses that a student must submit for each activity before they are able to check their answers; and
- The proportion of correct responses that a student must achieve on an activity before they can progress to the next activity.
In the spirit of supporting schools and families to provide independent daily practice on foundational mathematics skills to their students, we are making the NumberSense App versions of workbooks 2 to 11 (more to follow as they are finalised) available at a nominal fee until schools re-open.
The NumberSense App, is available for both Android and Apple tablets and is best used on a device with a 7-inch [or larger] screen. The NumberSense App normally retails for R53 (VAT incl.) per workbook. For the period during which schools are closed on account of the coronavirus we are providing access to the workbooks at a nominal rate of R15 (VAT incl.) per workbook.
For family purchases of the App please visit the Mobile App tab for instructions on how to access and use the app and the Shop/Mobile App to purchase workbook licences and gain access to the parent supervision console.
For class or whole school purchases of the App please visit the Mobile App tab for instructions on how to access and use the app and please write to info@NumberSense.co.za for a spreadsheet that must be completed with the all of the students’ details so that we can provide you with each student’s login details and provide teachers with access to the console(s) for their class(es).
If there is anything else that we can do to provide support to you during this time, please do not hesitate to write to us at info@NumberSense.co.za or to Aarnout Brombacher directly at email@example.com.
As we navigate this difficult time we want to urge you to take social distancing and personal hygiene very seriously so that we can, as a nation, beat this pandemic.
