Cape Town NumberSense Workshop: 14 September 2024

The role of investigation and problem solving in the NumberSense Mathematics Programme

Investigations and problems are intriguing, provoke curiosity, and capture children’s interest and attention. Investigating and problem solving play an important role in developing and supporting children’s understanding of mathematics and development of mathematical concepts.

The NumberSense Mathematics Programme (Aarnout Brombacher ) is presenting a one-day workshop for Grade R to 7 numeracy/mathematics teachers.

In this workshop we will explore:

  • the role of investigations and problem solving in the NumberSense Mathematics Programme.
  • investigation and problem types used in the NumberSense Comprehensive Workbook Series.
  • the role of the teacher before, during, and after investigation/problem-solving activities.
  • the characteristics of effective investigations and problems.

This workshop caters to teachers who are experienced in the use and implementation of the NumberSense Programme, as well as those who are beginning their NumberSense implementation journeys.
