NumberSense Mental Arithmetic Learner Booklet 6
This booklet is designed for use during mental arithmetic sessions where the teacher calls out each calculation and children write only the answers in their booklets. The teacher should set a pace that suits the age and grade level of the class or group. The goal is for the children to answer the questions mentally using appropriate strategies. After each session, children can use the progress table on the back inside cover to record their fluency (how many are attempted) and accuracy (how many are correct).
These booklets are available for Workbooks 4-12 as the nature of mental arithmetic prior to this requires the support of manipulatives. Teacher prompts and notes for these activities are available on the website.
This booklet contains suggested activities aligned to the corresponding NumberSense Workbook. The teacher has the flexibility to use the mental arithmetic items from previous mental arithmetic booklets.
Each booklet contains 48 tasks. Within each task, questions are grouped in sets which are designed to reveal a pattern that supports the application of the foundational skills.
