    ‘Making sense of NumberSense’! Prompts, strategies and solutions for Grade R

    NumberSense teaching and learning materials for Grade R will comprise the following:

    • ‘What do you notice?’ Posters:
      • A set of 40 posters for Term 1 (R1)
      • A set of 40 posters for Term 2 (R2)
      • A set of 40 posters for Term 3 & 4 (R3 & R4)
    • Grade R Activity Cards: A set of 100 cards for the year (R1,2,3,4)
    • NumberSense Comprehensive Workbook R3 (updated Workbook 00)
    • NumberSense Comprehensive Workbook R4 (updated Workbook 0)
    • Teacher Guides:
      • Teacher Guide for ‘What do you notice?’ posters (R1,2,3,4)
      • Teacher Guide for Concrete Activity Ideas and Activity Cards (R1,2,3,4)
      • Teacher Guide for Workbook R3
      • Teacher Guide for Workbook R4

    R1-4 represent developmental stages. It is recommended that you start at R1 and go as far as possible rather than sticking to a rigid term-by-term pacing. It is more important to lay a solid foundation of R1 and 2 concepts than to rush through to R4 if children are not ready.

  • NumberSense Mental Arithmetic Learner Booklets

    NumberSense Mental Arithmetic Learner Booklets 4-24

    These booklets contain suggested activities aligned to the corresponding NumberSense Workbook. The teacher has the flexibility to use the mental arithmetic items from previous mental arithmetic booklets. Each booklet contains 48 tasks. Within each task, questions are grouped in sets which are designed to reveal a pattern that supports the application of the foundational skills.

    The NumberSense Mental Arithmetic Learner Booklets for Booklets 4-12, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 21 are ready and can be acquired here! 

    Final version estimated by:

    • Booklets 15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 by the end of November 2026
